holy hell.. was this good.
even the plot was so good, you could read it as a novel and be satisfied, it feels like they actually put a LOT more thought into the plot this time than just the scares and atmosphere.
i don't wanna give any spoilers (played through the game for 6 hours straight last night), but the jumpscares were at perfect timing, the BG music with the sound effects really throws you off at first, and they don't make the monster clear on what it looks like at first unless you use your wits to see it yourself.
there are a lot of different things thechineseroom and frictional games has done, such as adding human NPCs instead of just the monsters, let you go outside several times, and just made the environment feel more lively than static like in dark descent. they've even moved away from a few of the traditional things frictional games has been using throughout their games.. no inventory, infinite light, (you also have infinite "sanity".. i don't wanna include this because the sanity meter was something only done for amnesia's plot, since the shadow is an evil creature that lurkes in the darkness, it would make sense why daniel would lose his sense if he stayed in the dark for too long at any point in the game), you don't have this "hidder's vision" when you're hiding in dark areas, and you honestly don't have to think too hard on puzzles, since you can rarely pick any foreign objects up anymore.
what's interesting though is that, if you've read the notes carefully and payed attention to the plot a bit more, there's a crossover with dark descent (i also made a stupid lil joke about a crossover with another game, but ill save that for a comic or somethin' .u.)
